Embarrassing Mistakes on MSNBC.com!

Right now, these are headlines on the “Best of MSNBC” homepage:

Sondland’s testimony again under scrutiny over newly-revealed call with Trump

House Dems hone in on bribery as possible impeachment charge

Streissand, Reiner, King, Belafonte congratulate Chris on 20 years of Hardball

Each of these headlines contains an embarrassing punctuation/grammar/spelling mistake that is surprising given the fact that MSNBC is one of the most prestigious and reliable news organizations in the world. Geez, this ain’t brain surgery! Let’s break it down.

  1. Sondland’s testimony again under scrutiny over newly-revealed call with Trump

Lord have mercy! You never hyphenate an -ly adverb. I thought everybody knew that.

2. House Dems hone in on bribery as possible impeachment charge

The expression is “home in,” not “hone in.” To “hone” means to sharpen. It’s a completely different word. Yikes!

3. Streissand, Reiner, King, Belafonte congratulate Chris on 20 years of Hardball

This mistake has been posted for five days (at least!), despite my rather creative attempts to reach Hardball/Chris Matthews. It’s Barbra Streisand, not Streissand.

That “Streissand” thing was/is bad enough, but now there are no fewer than THREE mistakes on the “Best of” page. One is one too many.
